No-water, no-mow synthetic lawns ideal for retirement village residents

Sydney resident Clive Smith, of ‘The Landings’ retirement village in Turramurra, has installed a synthetic lawn system in the backyard of his town-house, which requires no watering or mowing, and looks and feels like real grass.

This is the first time in Australia that a ‘fibrillated’ synthetic lawn has been installed in a retirement village, which greatly benefits retirees who find that it is too difficult to maintain grass, especially in light of water restrictions.

The synthetic lawn, supplied by Pro-tech, has made yard maintenance a lot easier for Clive who no longer has to water, weed or mow his back yard.

Clive says that he installed the lawn in his backyard after several failed attempts at growing real grass.

“The lawn that we planted when we first moved in lasted only five weeks and the second lawn lasted only seven.

“Our new synthetic lawn is not much work at all, and it makes life pretty good,” said Clive.

The 25 square metre lawn installed by Pro-tech last month has also attracted attention from other residents who Clive says are amazed at how real the lawn looks.

“Previous synthetic lawns I have seen look ‘synthetic’. This one looks natural, especially after you have walked on it for a couple of days and worn it in.

“I am so impressed with my new lawn that I’ve suggested that the retirement village use it for all the future apartments built in the complex. It has solved all our problems.

“It looks good, feels good and is everything we wanted; our two golden retriever dogs love it too,” said Clive.

The synthetic lawn system is based on a unique European concept, which has been brought to Australia by Pro-tech. Pro-tech uses the process of ‘fibrillation’ to split the fibres and give the lawn the grass-like look and feel.

Pro-tech lawns have now been installed in back and front yards across Sydney, ACT, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth and are available across Australia.

Pro-tech is also the company behind the no- maintenance synthetic putting greens, one of which is in the Sydney home of Australian champion Peter O’Malley, who joins a host of international golfers to install a synthetic  putting green.
