Locals admire a lawn, and nature strip, that looks real but requires no watering or mowing

A local Quakers Hill resident has just installed a ‘fibrillated’ synthetic lawn system in his front yard and nature strip, which requires no mowing or watering, and looks and feels like real grass.

James McIntosh, owner of the Quakers Hill property, says his lawn is already drawing a huge amount of attention from locals walking and driving by, particularly as the nature strip stands out so much.

“Everyone I’ve spoken to is totally wrapped in the lawn, especially because we have installed the lawn system on the nature strip, which the local council never maintained properly anyway,” said McIntosh.

“The original outlay for the lawn is worth every penny because it requires no maintenance or watering and it stays looking so beautiful and green all year round.

“Our local area has some problems with Army Grubs, which eat away the lawn, so this is a great solution. Many other lawns in the street are simply dying,” said McIntosh.

The synthetic lawn system is based on a unique European concept, which has been brought to Australia by Pro-tech. Pro-tech uses the process of ‘fibrillation’ to split the fibres and give the lawn the grass-like look and feel.

Whilst the lawn has already been installed in homes across Australia, this is the first time it has been installed on a nature strip. Owner of Pro-tech, Bill Rorke, says there is a huge application for the lawn in the local area, especially in a dry climate.

“Water restrictions in a dry climate can have a real impact on lawn quality and a fibrillated lawn system is a good, environmentally friendly landscaping alternative,” said Rorke.

“Looking after a backyard lawn is also a problem weekend chore for many people, with not only the mowing, but the ongoing maintenance.

“There is also the situation in many townhouse and apartment developments, where there are small lawn areas which are shaded and where it is subsequently difficult, or impossible, to sustain grass growth.

“Lawn looks good in these areas and there are often no suitable garden alternatives for such locations.

“Our fibrillated synthetic lawn system is a perfect solution, as it requires virtually no maintenance, will last for at least ten years and, depending on the area, costs less than a good quality paving installation,” said Rorke

Pro-tech is also the company behind the no-maintenance synthetic putting greens, one of which is in the Sydney home of Australian champion Peter O’Malley, who joins a host of international golfers to install a synthetic putting green.
