Every golfer's dream now a reality with a synthetic putting green for the backyard
Imagine sipping wine with friends on a relaxing Saturday afternoon,
practising your putting or having a putting competition while the sun sets in
the background. This is a reality for a number of home owners across Australia,
made possible by the emergence of professional synthetic putting greens.
Playing as true as the top professional greens around the world, these Pro-tech
putting greens require no maintenance or watering and are fast becoming a
popular landscape idea and entertainment idea for keen golfers.
Australian golfing professional Nick O'Hearn is currently installing the
synthetic putting green in the backyard of his Mount Lawley home in Perth.
He says the unique putting surface, installed by Pro-tech, was recommended to
him by fellow Australian champion Peter O'Malley.
"Pete said he had one is his front yard and I always wanted one like his, which
is why I've installed the putting green.
"Obviously it's great for practice and for improving my putting game –
especially after rain falls on the local course, making it more difficult to
play there.
"It's also great for having barbeques in the backyard with friends," said
O'Hearn.
The 80 square metre putting green has five holes, with underground lights
illuminating the cups of each hole to create a superb effect at night. The
intricate design of the surface includes a number of slopes and concaves to
provide a number of different putting situations. O'Hearn has also landscaped
the entire area, complete with a water feature.
The concept of a no-maintenance synthetic putting green has been enormously
successful in the United States and some of the top professionals have had them
installed in their backyards to allow them to practice more often and improve
their putting.
Pro-tech is also the company behind the no-water, no-maintenance synthetic
lawns, which look like real grass, and have been installed in homes and
commercial premises right across Australia.
