Locals admire no water no mow synthetic lawn
Local Kangaroo Point resident Karla Boehme has had a 175 square metre
'fibrillated' synthetic lawn installed in the front yard of her apartment that
requires no mowing or watering, and looks and feels like real grass.
Karla said that her decision to install the lawn was based on the current water
restriction and the original design of her backyard.
"My front garden used to drain towards the building and in heavy storms my
inside/outside room would flood. I have re-designed my yard and now the ground
slopes away from the building.
"I also didn't want to have to utilise water in this time of restrictions. It
was a waste of water trying to get my grass, which was planted on top of a
concrete slab, to grow," said Karla.
The synthetic lawn system is based on a unique European concept, which has been
brought to Australia by Pro-tech. Pro-tech uses the process of 'fibrillation' to
split the fibres and give the lawn the grass-like look and feel.
Karla said that the synthetic lawn looks great and that she has had positive
feedback from other residents living in the apartment building.
"My front yard looks excellent and the synthetic lawn has definitely added to
the value of the property.
"I had the garden landscaped with pebbles, pavers, the synthetic grass and a
combination of gravel and stepping stones. The grass looks neat and real and my
garden is visually very pleasing as well as having a functional design," Karla
said.
Pro-tech is also the company behind the no-maintenance synthetic putting greens,
one of which is in the Sydney home of Australian champion Peter O'Malley, who
joins a host of international golfers to install a synthetic putting green.
