The first no-water, no-mow lawn and putting green installed inside a shop
Gold coast shop owner and self-confessed golf nut, Phillip McBride, is the
first person in Australia to install a fibrillated synthetic lawn and putting
green inside a shop. Both of the no-mow, no-water products have been installed
inside his 'Boom Baby' outlet in the Stockland Shopping Centre at Burleigh
The synthetic lawn and putting green, installed by Pro-tech's Queensland agent,
runs throughout 30 square metres of the store like a track for customers to walk
on and test the store's products. It is also the first synthetic lawn of its
kind to appear on the Gold Coast.
"My customers can walk on the lawn and the green and test different products
like strollers and prams to see how they move across different environments,"
said Phillip.
Phillip says that the synthetic lawn would also be ideal for his 'time-poor'
customer base who are often too busy with the preparation for their baby's
arrival, or with juggling the demands of new parent-hood, to be looking after a
lawn.
"With water restrictions becoming an issue, many families who are moving houses
or renovating their existing one could greatly benefit from installing a no
water, no mow synthetic lawn in their gardens.
"Customers are always looking for new ideas so I suggest to them that instead of
playing in a sand-pit in the back yard, they should install a putting green and
play putt- putt with the kids.
Phillip says that although his store doesn't open till the 10 July, it has
already attracted a lot of attention from customers and other stores in the
shopping centre.
"Everybody is talking about the shop that has installed a synthetic lawn on the
inside. It is very exciting," said Phillip.
The synthetic lawn is produced using a process called fibrillation - a European
concept - which splits the synthetic fibres and gives the lawn a grass-like look
and feel.
Pro-tech's putting greens are professionally installed and can be designed and
contoured according to the owner's requirements and the specifications of the
property. The version installed inside Baby Boom uses a modified material
suitable for indoor use and is very similar to the outdoor synthetic version,
which plays as true as a championship green.
The synthetic putting green is installed at the Sydney home of Australian
golfing champion Peter O'Malley.
