No-water lawn chosen for luxury apartments
One of Australia's largest privately owned property investment and development companies has selected a water-wise, low maintenance approach to lawn to enhance the appearance of some of its important residential projects.

Cape Bouvard Developments has selected a high-profile penthouse development in the exclusive Perth suburb of Crawley to install Pro-tech's Eco Logical Lawn. Each of the four exclusive penthouses are located on the fringe of Kings Park overlooking the Swan River and carry a $2 million price tag.

Steve Hill, the Group Marketing & Sales Manager for Cape Bouvard, said the Pro-tech Eco Logical Lawn had exceeded the company's expectations in terms of aesthetics and functionality.

"The lawn has been installed in highly visible common property areas fronting a busy street as well as in the rear garden of the ground floor penthouse, which is on the market at $1.975m," Mr Hill said.

"But the real test for us is that people don't even recognise the lawn is not real. Initially the product appealed to us because it required no maintenance and was going to save on water usage, which both provided the value-added benefit of saving money in the community's strata budget," Mr Hill said.

"We have been very impressed with the natural look of the product, but there have been other advantages that have come to light since its installation," he said.

"Perth has had a very wet start to winter and the excellent drainage qualities in heavy rain have meant that you can be using the surface without the usual disadvantages associated with wet and soggy grass."

The Pro-tech Eco Logical Lawn is distributed in WA by John Hume and Richard Crook, owners of Synthetic Turf Products.

Richard Crook said that the lawn has been installed in a variety of applications in Perth such as Bowling Clubs, rooftop gardens, childcare centres and homes because it is a great alternative to grass or paving.
"The lawn is very porous, so water from heavy rain can drain straight through to the ground beneath. The product is completely safe for pets and people, with virtually no maintenance and expected to last twenty years," said Crook.

The Eco Logical synthetic lawn system was created by Pro-tech Corp Pty Ltd and is based on a European concept using the process of fibrillation to split the fibres and give the lawn the grass-like look and feel.

Pro-tech also installs professional synthetic golf putting greens. One was recently installed in the yard of Australian golf champion Nick O'Hearn in Mount Lawley.
